One Million Stars to End Violence

Maryann Talia Pau is the Founder of the One Million Stars to End Violence project which she started in 2012 following the death of Jill Meagher in her local community while she lived in Melbourne.

Motivated by the words of Martin Luther King’s Strength To Love, Maryann Talia Pau taught residents how to weave stars as a way of rebuilding trust.

“I wanted the stars to be a symbol of light and courage and solidarity to end all forms of violence, including violence against women, bullying and racism.
“I’m a weaver and I know the joy weaving brings to me personally, so I came up with this idea to get everyone to weave a million.” – Maryann Talia Pau

Inspired by the impactful and success of this One Million Star to End Violence Project in Australia, PWW & SI Ipoh joined forces in October 2017, to initiate a similar project in our community in Malaysia. The encouraging words by Maryann has been shared with us through their website at http://www.onemillionstars.net/.
