‘One Million Stars to End Violence’, is a love- and- peace -filled community project. These beautiful stars are symbols of light, courage and solidarity to end all forms of violence, including violence against women and children, bullying and racism.
The One Million Stars project is an opportunity for us to be the light and hope in the world and to make something beautiful and powerful together. We know that domestic violence, violence on our streets, racism and harassment are happening RIGHT NOW, and often, it is difficult to know what to do to help those who are suffering; and to help prevent it.
The One Million Stars project is an opportunity to remind each other that we CAN do something about it and not feel paralysed by all that is broken, with humanity.
Every woven star reminds us that we have to MAKE peace and a safe haven, which doesn’t just happen without our care and involvement. Every star is a commitment to resist violence, hatred and harbour revenge; instead we are reminded to believe in forgiveness and healing.
Ending violence is OUR responsibility, not one person’s, not one organisation or leader. Us. With open hearts, open minds, Everyone is welcome. Everyone matters.
The One Million Stars to End Violence Project met its target in October 2019.
It took us two years, involving people from all strata of society, who believed and advocated for a stop to violence. Professionals, students from schools and institutions of higher learning, senior citizens, people from overseas getting inspired by the project and sending stars, sometimes only a few, from as far away as the USA.
The One Million Stars Gallery will be officially open to the public on 13th November 2019.
The installation is a project in collaboration with UiTM Seri Iskander, Perak.
We hope that the sight of one million stars shows just how much we can achieve when we work together to create change and that it inspires a sense of hope, pride and belonging in our communities.
